Invention of parachutes

Bismillah,

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

The first person to make a real attempt to construct a flying machine and fly was 'Abbas ibn Firnas in the 9th century.
In 852 Abbas ibn Firnas, a Muslim engineer from Spain, made a loose cloak stiffened with wooden struts and jumped from the minaret of the Grand Mosque in Qurtaba, in hope to glide like a bird. Although he did not glide in the air as he had expected, the cloak slowed his fall, creating what is considered to be the first parachute.

:)

wsalam
