Invention of windmills

Bismillah,

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!

The windmill was so simple, yet so effective that it quickly spread all over the world from 7th century Persian origins.

Five hundred years ago before they were seen in Europe, windmills were made in Persia under the order of the second Muslim caliph, Umar( May Allah be pleased with him) and were first used in the Persian province of Siatan. Windmills were designed to use wind, the only available source of power in the desert, and were widely used to grind corn and draw up water for irrigation.
