Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
Jahannum(Hell). We've heard that word so often. We've been told so many times of the horrors that lie within it. And yet we brush it aside like nobody's business. This summer, while walking with my parents in a park, I came across a very interesting (and not in a good way) looking branch. See for yourself.
Can you think of eating even one part of that? Imagine feeling severely hungry and eating that for the rest of eternity. Would you want that? That, will be on the menu of anybody who enters jahannum. Now think, wouldn't you do practically anything to not even take that half-way down your throat? Isn't it smarter and more life/pain saving if we become better Muslims from today and avoid the eternal hell fire?
Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):
Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "Your (ordinary) fire is one of 70 parts of the (Hell) Fire." Someone asked, "O Allah's Apostle, this (ordinary) fire would have been sufficient (to torture the unbelievers)," Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, "The(Hell) Fire has 69 parts more than the ordinary (worldly) fire, each part is as hot as this (worldly) fire." (Bukhari Vol. 4 : No. 487)
Think about it.

| In jahunnum there will be a tree whose branches will be full of thorns(Tree of Zaqqum); it will be the meal of the inmates. You can imagine, looking at this, what the Tree of Zaqqum must be like. |

Came to your post.. while reading quran tafseer and was searching for Zaqqum Tree.. to see how it will look like... that is a Thought Provoking post! May Allah save us all from the Hell fire! InshAllah!
